Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is the new Zelda adventure RPG for the Nintendo 3DS.
This game takes place in the timeline experienced first in Zelda: A Link to the Past, six generations later. This is a particularly cherished part of the Zelda franchise and originally made it's first appearance on the 16 bit Super Nintendo way back in 1991.
The setting of the game is sentimental and fresh. The view is from a top-down overhead perspective like the original SNES Zelda. The game world is similar to the original as well, tugging on the heart strings of older gamers, while including plenty of new and imaginative dungeons and puzzles.
The story sends link into Lorule which is a dark alternate reality version of Hyrule. Link has to restore order between the two worlds in order to save the day. Classic villain Ganon shows up and we are introduced to colorful new foes as well.
The graphics are colorful and charming. The music is full of catchy tunes old and new, each piece sets the mood for each level affectively.
Tha gameplay is what you would expect from a Zelda game. There is simple but fun swordplay, boomerangs, arrows, bombs, etc. The new addition to the gameplay in Link Between WOrlds is the ability to turn into a picture. This picture-ability allows Link to turn into a two dimensional image on a wall and then move past enemies or around obstacles. It's a cute gimmick and is well implemented.
I highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys adventure RPGs, retro-gaming, puzzles, or cute and lovable characters with a dose of cartoon violence.
